Girl-Stuff Day
Oh, it's been a long day!!
Had to drive in to San Marcos today, because Miss Priss had a doctor's appointment of the Female Kind. And because it was of the Female Kind, the Impossible Son could not go with us.
This did not make him happy at first, because he hates not being with his sister, most especially when he knows she's nervous about something (and ironically enough, that is the time she least wants him around... but then she turns out to be glad he's there). Then I told him his sister's best friend's Mom, Miss E (don't worry, guys, she's married, it's just a Southern Thang), and he got very excited. It dimmed slightly when I told him that B (Miss Priss' best friend) and K (best friend's little sister) would not be there, but then he realized... he would have Miss E all to himself!! Apparently, my son has a thing for blondes.
Well, that made him deliriously happy, as did the idea of free access to Legos out the wazoo, and... a Nintendo X-Box.
No, we don't have an X-Box. And no, we aren't going to get one. Why? After all, my kids have Nintendo DS, right?
Well, my kids spend most of their day outside, riding their bikes, running, playing soccer, pretending to hunt Big-Foot, building a clubhouse, etc. When they get hot and need to come in to rest, they might play on their DS systems. Or, they might go play a Harry Potter game on their computers. Or they might curl up on their bed, or on the couch to read a book. Or they might watch TV for a bit. Then they run back outside and play until they need to drop again.
I have a feeling that might change if we had an X-Box. So no, we don't have one, nor do we plan to for a while.
Anyways, Mr. Manzie was very excited, and was so ready to go, he was all but willing to walk all the way to her house by himself.
Fortunately, he waited long enough for her to pick him up!
Once he was off on his date...er... I mean to spend the afternoon with Miss E, Miss Priss and I went to eat lunch at Mr. Taco (which was less than satisfying today, eurgh), then hit the road for San Marcos. Her appointment was at 2:30, and I was plotting out all the errands I needed to run (Okay, go to doctor, then go by Dr. Granola to pick up the kids' records to bring back to Dr. R., then go by Hastings so Miss Priss can shop for manga...) and my mobile rang.
It was the doctor's office. The doctor Miss Priss was seeing, who specializes in teens, was in surgery, and they were moving appointments up. Our new appointment was at 4:45, unless we wanted to make a new one, which meant waiting until... August.
O_o
No, no, 4:45 was fine, I said, because the problem we were going in for was not the sort which gets better with time, and the poor kid was freaked out enough as it was, let's not drag it on for TWO MORE MONTHS!!!
Since I was on the road, I decided to go on to San Marcos, because I was not willing to waste the gas turning around to go back home, and then turn around to go back. So, on to San Marcos.
We went to Hastings, where the Impertinent One decided on the first three issues of The Prince of Tennis, though she looked longingly at several others, Bleach, Fairy Tale, and such, but since she was buying with her money, she had to limit herself. After that, we headed to the pediatrician's office for the records, and then on to PetsMart, because we needed new filters for the cats' drinking fountain. And I discovered something that my daughter and I have in common.
We needed to kill two and a half hours. And were perfectly incapable of it. Well, if I had been willing to drive back to Half-Price Books, maybe, but it would have cost fifty dollars. But we tried to dawdle through PetsMart. We got the filters. We looked at fish. We lingered over the fish, oohing and aaahing, and trying to decide what we'd get when we start our tanks up again. We looked at the guinea pigs, and the little agoutis. We looked at hamsters (never again!), rats (who were apparently on Quaaludes), parrots, parakeets, and cockatiels. We looked at, and picked up, cat toys. We looked at aquarium accessories. We looked at dog stuff. And decided we had looked at everything we could and checked out, thinking, surely we had spent quite some time there.
It took all of 15 minutes.
My daughter and I are completely incapable of dawdling. We're... too efficient.
So we went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Most excellent store for dawdling, right? We looked at bath stuff. We drooled over the rain showerheads. We looked at bedding, and nightlights, pillows, shams, lamps. We spent a very long time in kitchen accessories, and how we came out of there without spending a dime, I will never, ever know.
Ten minutes.
We walked into Ross for Less and walked right back out. That took... 25 seconds.
We went into Marshall's, and took... twenty minutes.
After that, it was Lowe's or the doctor's office. We tried Lowe's, and lasted about 3 minutes in the garden center before the Impertinent One said, "Mom, I know we'd be way early if we go to the doctor's office now, but we've got stuff to read, and at least we'd be in the air conditioning!!"
She had a point. We went to the doctor's office. We got there at 4. I filled out paperwork, and was done at 4:10. And we didn't get called in for all the prelimary work until... 5:15. Then back out into the waiting room, and we got called back in at 5:45. And we left at 6:15 or so.
It was a LOOOOONG day.
Mr. Manzie had a wonderful time with Miss E, and has been talking non-stop about it and is already asking when he can do it again. *laughs* I am just wondering when I can go to bed so I can recover!
Oh, and
lddurham, this is for you, from Miss Priss herself. As a thank-you for suggesting we might like Bleach.
