On that note, why did Netflix take Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis off instant viewing? How'm I supposed to get my Stargate fix NOW???

Both the kids love 'em. I sent one with Mr. Impossible last spring that had the Stargate and it said, "Would you walk through?" and when I picked him up that afternoon, he bounded into the car with a "Hell, YES!!"

And I plan to settle down and read your SGA Big Bang fic next week, because it looks utterly fantabulous, and I'm dying to write SGA fic, but... I'm still in block and severely lacking in confidence.

And, OMG, Stargate is awesome. I shy away from the usual pairings (John/Rodney, Jack/Daniel) because Cam kinda owns me. But, lately, I've been dabbling in original fics... wheee!

I made the mistake of asking a family friend who also happens to be a high priestess to look over an original story I'd written that had pagan rituals in it just as a sort of fact-checker. You know, look at my rituals and see if they were believable and wouldn't have pagans breathing down my neck about not knowing what the hell I'm talking about. It was an early draft, and I knew I had massive rewriting to do, but it was finished, and I just wanted to get the ritual stuff cleared before starting on it.

If she wasn't someone whose opinion I trusted, what she actually ended up saying wouldn't have hurt so damn much. Basically, in a nutshell, she told me the story was so bad that she was going to rewrite it for me. Literally.

That... absolutely floored me. I actually put the story away and didn't touch it for two years because of that. And later, when I finally did pull it out to look at it, I could see the flaws, but... they weren't that bad, and hell, it was a first draft. First drafts suck. But there was a good story in there.

Then last year, this same person, along with another dear friend, was chatting with me at a party, and she and the DF both said that I needed to focus on my humor writing, that the funny entries I make on my blog about my family are hysterical, and I needed to make a book out of them. That I could be the next Erma Bombeck.

Uh... what???

Yeah. That's... great. But... I don't want to be the next Erma Bombeck. (I feel like that prince in Monty Python and the Holy Grail", "But Father, I don't want to live in a swamp!") And I happen to think I'm a fairly good erotica writer. But you know, that just... sorta took the wind out of my sails. And I've had a hard time writing ever since. And I'm just... done with Harry Potter fanfic, you know?

Oh, honey. I know what you mean. I tend to hole up in my shell for a few weeks when someone does that to me. I don't know what I would do if it was someone I considered a family friend. But what I have discovered is, the only person that hurts and weighs down is me. I still have to kick myself in the butt to get going again, but I know now to do it sooner rather than later.

I'm pretty much done with fanfic in general. LOL I go back a dabble in HP every now and then (like I'm doing HD Hols this year because it is the very last one), and that SG fic I just did was for an auction winner. But, on the whole, writing fanfic is draining for me. I much prefer my original characters and all of that.

While, yes, you are very amusing, you also dig deep and bring out the other emotions. And that makes a well-rounded story. The offer stands, you want to talk fic - fanfic or original - you know how to get in touch with me. *hugs*

Thought I'd tell you, I'm participating in Keira's NakedNano. I'm "toasterpop," and heaven help me, I'm writing a monster called "The Further I'm Away." So far, so good. Now, whether or not it's readable or makes sense? Uh... hmmm, well... heh...
