Because I promised
koshweasley that I would post pictures...
We went to Blue Hole as a farewell to summer on Sunday, and a Good Time Was Had By All. The water was, as always, extremely frigid, and since a day trip anywhere is not complete without my forgetting something, I forgot my aqua socks. Still, it wasn't as boilingly hot as it has been the last few weeks, and I not only managed to get some writing done, but I also got to visit with my best friend, whom I haven't seen in yonks.

The Impossible Son and his first try at the time honored tradition of jumpin' into the swimmin' hole via a rope swing!

The creek is surrounded by immense cypress trees, and this particular one had two rope swings on it; a low one, and then one way high up near the top. You are free to guess which one these guys are waiting for.

A view down the creek, which is relaxing in and of itself.

Looking up into one of the trees with a rope swing in it. Wish I could have given you a sense of how high this particular guy is, because... he was. I had my camera set on zoom, if that gives you any clue.

The path that leads down to the swimming area. Nice place to find fossils after a good rain.

BRRRRR!!! Himself heads to Papa for a bit of a warm-up. Did I mention the water is skin-shrivelingly cold? Which is really nice when the temperature is in the triple digits, I admit, but WHEW!!! Sometimes, it's too much for me, and the kids will come out with their lips all blue, and shivering like it's the middle of winter!

I'm sure if the kids' attention wasn't completely occupied by the water, they'd be scrambling up this slope to explore. One of these days, they're going to look around, spot it, and THO and I will find ourselves scrambling after them, trying to keep up!
It's a nice place to swim, and hang out, and though I will always love Krause Springs, I have to say, I don't miss slipping and falling on the boulders that surround the pool there. Blue Hole is much kinder to the clumsy.
I know the kids can't wait for it to open again in the spring! I hope you enjoyed this little tour of Blue Hole. Please collect all recyclables and leave them in the containers in the front of the bus. Thank you for taking Auntie's Texas Tours. Y'all come back now!
