auntbijou: (Angry Chibi Auntie!!)
There is a fix for those annoying Facebook/Twitter ticky-boxes that are giving us such fits right now. I am grateful to [personal profile] karadin for sharing it, and I will share it, in turn, with y'all. Pass it around, yo.

http://saifai.livejournal.com/285517.html

Now mind, it just gets rid of the ticky boxes in your comment section. It won't keep those who have auto-share or are viewing your journal in their own style from reposting (and you can at least ask them politely not to), but for the rest, you should be covered.

Geez, you'd think with as many users shouting, "Oh, hell the fuck NO," the Bright Young Things responsible for this debacle would turn around and cancel the whole damn thing. But I imagine Facebook and Twitter have a lot invested in this, and I suppose the answer would be for those of us who have Facebook and Twitter accounts to make our displeasure known to those entities. I don't think we have to tell them our usernames, etc, but we can say, "Hey, we have private journals on Livejournal, and we have our public persona on Facebook/Twitter. We have them separate for a REASON. Cut it out NOW or... I'm deleting my Facebook." And mean it.

I have a Facebook. I primarily use it to keep in touch with my family and those friends that I knew from the dawn of time that I still like and enjoy chatting with from a distance (there's a reason for that, you know). HOWEVER, I will delete it in a heartbeat if I had to, to make a point. I've come close a few times, thanks to their lack of understanding on privacy issues. Which... this is just one more example of!

I'm just sayin'...

It never fails...

Well, isn't THIS just a lovely piece of news?

*snort*

Not to sound paranoid, but why does something like this always happen when my paid account time is about to run out? It'll run out on the 18th, and I'm sitting here debating whether or not to pay for more time or let it go to a basic account. Let me see, when I finally decided to upgrade to a paid account... the strikethrough happened. Then, when that time ran out and I decided to pay for more time, because I figured that things had settled down, several artists and writers had their accounts suspended without warning.

The last time my account was about to run out, some kind, anonymous person stepped in and gave me six more months, and most fortunately nothing happened at that time.

This time, well... I'm afraid if I decide to go ahead and pay for more time (because Auntie loves her icons, she does!), Livejournal might go 'splodey.

Auntie does not want to be ridden out of the remains of LJ-Town on a rail with tar and feathers, no she doesn't!

Well, we can't say that life on LJ isn't always interesting. I mean, really, they have never failed to capture our collective attention and make sure we stay focused on them, have they? They give us six months or a year to settle down and just when we start feeling all safe and cozy again... BAM!!!

*huggles IJ and cuddles it close*

Ummmmm...

Okay, this is different. In my bookmark list, and on top of the tab that shows my page, instead of the little blue Livejournal pencil, there's a yellow box with a black border. B-zuh?? But every other LJ site I have bookmarked has the little blue pencil. So... what gives?

LJ, honey? Something you wanna tell me?

Er... guys???

Have y'all seen this yet?

http://news.livejournal.com/104520.html?#cutid1

Have y'all noticed that they just can't seem to leave well enough alone this year??

This is just...weird.

I'm going to bed now.  Wake me up when it's over and they've decided which way they're going to jump... AGAIN.

Sneaky LJ is at it again!!!  I was reading through my f-list and came up on an entry from

[personal profile] ldybastet that stopped me in my tracks.

It seems that for those of us who have paid accounts, LJ has decided to turn on our automatic payments.  Now, I know when I paid for my account back in July (just before the Grand Artist Deletion Caper) that I didn't authorize automatic payments.  I never do that.  For one thing, I might decide for one reason or another to let it lapse.  For another thing, I might need to delay a payment, or quit, period.  So, after[personal profile] ldybastet's entry, I went and checked, and Holy Mackinoly!!  My account was set to automatic!!  And yes, you bet your Bippy I changed it in a flash!!!  No way, Jose!!!

For those of you who want to know, you can check this entry: http://loupgarou1750.insanejournal.com/56144.html.

Nope, not happy with LJ tonight, not at all.

By the way, for those of you interested, I posted a new fic at my IJ/GJ, or you can take a peek at[profile] hrroundrobin.  It's fluffy, I warn you.  Fluffier than a pair of bunny slippers on a cold, wet night, but well, I think it's pretty good, if only for the fate I gave Mrs. Black!

MUAAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!

Hmmmmmm....

You know, my comment notifications are awfully slow.  It takes almost 24 hours now.  The last time that happened was during the Memorial Day debacle of the Strikethrough.

*eyes LJ suspiciously*

Dear Fandom,

Livejournal is NOT going to give us definitive answers, nor are they going to tell us specifically what would and would not violate their terms of service.  This is most likely at the advice of their legal department.  Why?  Because it gives them wiggle room.  It keeps us from saying, "What, we can't do this?  But you specifically said in paragraph A, subsection 6 that we can do this, this, and this, which CLEARLY shows that we can do THIS."  Being ambiguous gives them a lot more room to maneuver, so to speak.

Those of us who are basically paying customers are pretty hacked off about this, and that's understandable.  However, this is their sandbox, and we are paying to play in it.  Their terms of service basically say that if we play in their sandbox in a way that they don't like, whether it's building phallic sandcastles, or just singing a very annoying song as we pour sand over our legs, they can boot our little carcasses out, and we have no say in it.  And they don't have to give our our quarters back.

I don't like it, either.  And I don't like that they seem to singling out one particular group of fandom.  I mean, have we heard any complaints from any other fan group?  Has any of the manga or yaoi groups been hit?  Have any of their comms or artists been deleted?  What about the groups for Supernatural, Star Wars, Heroes, Final Fantasy, etc.... any of them getting nudged or deleted?

The HP fandom is embarrassing to LJ.  They want us to leave.  They want us to leave in DROVES.  Thing is, once we're gone, where will they start looking next?  Because, clearly, we're affecting their bottom line, and making their IPO look really, really...unappealing.  Because we complain so much.  *snort*

I'm not deleting my LJ.  I've got a Greatest Journal, and an Insane Journal, and I will be posting fic on those journals, but not here.  I would post a link to them, but I'm not so sure now, since there was a post saying that if one posts a link to an off-site journal with content that violates LJ's TOS, then that's a violation.  *frowns*  Yeah.  Okay.  Anyhow, I'll figure something out.

Still, as I said, Livejournal is not going to answer us definitively.  They'll keep dancing around the issue, and making non-statements as long as they possibly can.  We aren't going to force them to accept us, or to apologize except in the broadest terms.  By their own TOS and logic, they've done nothing wrong.  I'm not saying we should give up.  I'm saying we should realize this, accept it, and come up with a different strategy.  Think outside the box.  We're playing by their rules.  And for us, that is a losing strategy.

I'm just sayin'...

thoughtfully,

Auntie

To let y'all know...

Okey dokey, I have an InsaneJournal now, under the same username.  And while I haven't posted anything yet, I have friended a few people that I can remember have IJ's on the top of my head.

I can't wait for this to be over.  I am SO Tired of all the drama, and the yanking the chains, and all that.  LJ, you suck big dogs.  Totally.

no love,

Auntie

And so it goes...

I do not think I shall be posting fic here any longer.  I'll probably keep up my regular postings, but fic?  I'll post that on my GJ from now on.  LJ is getting too creepy for my tastes.

What pisses me off, really, is that I finally relaxed and re-upped my paid account like, two weeks ago.  And I was a little tweaked, because I wanted to increase my userpics, but it wasn't in the budget.  Now, of course, I'm glad.  For those of you who weren't aware of it, Murphy's Law is a huge presence in my life, so you can probably blame the current brou-ha-ha on me.  I kept holding off on renewing, then thought, what the hell, another year couldn't hurt.  So, I'm sorry!  I apologize!  MEA CULPA!!!

I can't watch the Astros play, either, because whenever I do... they lose.  Sorry [personal profile] kaellite.  I SWEAR I haven't watched them at ALL this year!  I want Biggio to have an absolutely AWESOME last season, so... I won't be watching, okay?  I'll just... wait for you to tell me how they're doing.  Yeah.

Anyhow, baseball aside, this thing with LJ is just plain disturbing, but not surprising.  I mean, really, what else do we expect?  When you read the TOS, basically, they can suspend you at their own discretion for whatever reason they want.  End of story.  You know, "it's MY playhouse, and if I say you can't stay, YOU CAN'T STAY!!!"

So, no more fics from Auntie.  Just my usual dribble-drabble commentary on the usual and not so usual happenings in my life.  If you can stand it.  It's odd, I have a My Space page, too, that I'm thinking of deleting, because I hardly EVER post there, and I hardly EVER even check it!  It's rather frustrating to work with, really.  And I'm not completely sold on Insane Journal yet, not since reading over their TOS.  Well, EVERYONE'S TOS is pretty much the same.  "If we don't like your content, VAMOOSE!!"  It will be interesting to see what fandom comes up with as a result.

Until then, see you on the other side.  Peace out!

What the %@(>#!!!

elaboration and ponderosa121 were suspended????  Are they KIDDING???

What the bloody hell is going on??

I can't believe it, it's so STUPID!!  *growls and snarls*  We're going through this AGAIN????

We need to grab Six Apart and beat them about the head and shoulders with their friggin' checkbooks!!

Very Interesting....

So, I'm yakkin' with my bud,[personal profile] failuresofine, and he sent me a link that I found... fascinating.  And disturbing.  And it sort of makes more sense than anything else that has been proposed.  In other words, it sort of brings this whole mess with LJ into reasonable focus.  Well... reasonable for Six Apart, at least.

http://stewardess.livejournal.com/261058.html

Y'all read it, and see what y'all think.  I find it somewhat ominous toward the end, and I admit, it has me looking toward GJ with greater favor.  However, the only thing is... who owns GJ?  Because I've been looking and I haven't found anything that says, and you know, GJ and LJ share the same open source code and all that.  Heck, when you look at the tool bar, the user button and cut button say "LJ user" and "LJ cut."

Anyhow, read what [personal profile] stewardess has to say.  Talk amongst yourselves.  Let us see what there is to see.

*hugs her f-list*

And [profile] onewavebreaks, honey?  I'm glad you're back!!

So LJ has apologized and admitted to making mistakes.  Sort of.

Thing is, what really pisses me off is when Perverted Justice made these same complaints over a year ago, LJ basically told them to bugger off and mind their own beeswax.  LJ stood up for its clients.  And Perverted Justice is a legitimate organization.

Then here comes this whack-job front for a bunch of really scary groups, and LJ rolls over like a cat in heat and says, "Yeah, sure, kill them ALL and let the gods sort them out!"

No.  I am not impressed.  Nor truly appeased.  I'm still pissed off.

I love Livejournal.  I love the community I've found here, the ease of use, the friends I've made, and the support I've found for my writing.  Not just my fanfics, but the original writing I've done.  It's not that I don't have support at home, because I do.  But there's always been this seed of doubt in me, because let's face it, you tend to feel your friends and family like your writing because they love you, and that may have a slight effect on their objectivity.  But to have people you DON'T know, complete strangers in some cases, write you to tell you how much they like something you've written, and WHY they like it... well, it's a revelation.  It's...enpowering.  So Livejournal will always have a special place in my heart, because this is the place where I got a boost to my writing batteries.

So, am I going to leave Livejournal?

Probably not.  This is where all my friends are.  If they jump ship en masse, though...maybe.  We'll just have to see how the next few weeks play out.  It's painful to discover a place you thought was tolerant maybe isn't so tolerant after all.  I've spent a long time in the Broom closet, y'all.  It's not so great to think of having to spend time in other closets as well, and you know what?  Witch hunts aren't so much fun, trust me.

Been there, done that.

Don't want to do it again.

Insanity is optional

So, with all the craziness that has ensued here on LJ, I have decided to nip over to Greatest Journal and have a safety net of sorts.  Good grief, people!  This is ... nuts.  Just nuts.

LJ, honey, you have lost your collective mind, having such a knee-jerk reaction.  Really.  Did you even establish these folks as a legitimate organization, or did you just start hittin' that delete button for all you were worth when they mentioned hittin' you in the pocket book?  I thought y'all had more balls than that.  I'm so sorry to be proved wrong.

No love,

Auntie

and here's my new journal, though there's really nothing up yet.

Those of y'all already there, go ahead on and friend me.  I'll friend you right back!
