My best friend sent this to me, and she tested out at 100 % Dixie (i.e. extremely Southern). You know me, I can't resist tests like that, so I took it and was stunned to make only 84%. I guess watching BBCAmerica and PBS all those years have had an effect! That's okay, I don't SOUND Southern, either. When I started school, the school district in the city where I grew up decided to start a program to "iron out" our accents. So instead of saying "poyim" I say "po-em" and I don't write with a "pin," I write with a "pen." But I still say "punkin," "puddin'" and "y'all." My sisters and I like to joke that the reason we don't have strong accents is because our mother is from Louisiana, and our father is from Mississippi, we live in Texas, and between all that, it cancelled our accents out! Actually, though, I suspect it comes from living in a large city, in an ethnically diverse neighborhood, and being around all sorts of people growing up.

Well, if you want to find out how Southern Fried YOU are, here's the link. Have fun, dearies!
