It was a most excellent soccer day...
Miss Priss' game was at 9 am, so it was nice and cool. However, one of our girls did not show up for the game, so we only had one substitute player. This was only a slight improvement over last weekend, when we had NO subs. You should be impressed. Our girls play 30 minute halves, with a ten minute break for halftime. This means they are continuously running for 30 minutes. And most of it, they are running full out.
Exactly.
So, as usual, we were playing an Austin team. We're playing Austin teams because we have only two teams at U-12, and therefore, not enough teams to play in our own league. Since the Impertinent Daughter is on an all-girl team, this means they are playing all-girl teams now. And again, only one all-girl team here, so... we play Austin teams.
Anyhow, we were excited last week, because they got a goal. Now, you have to understand, folks, our teams are sometimes hopelessly out-classed by the Austin teams. It can't be helped. One, they have more money than we do, and therefore, they can afford to have Major League Soccer send trainers and coaches in to help them out, and run clinics during the season. They also start training in July. They also send their kids to soccer camps at UT, Rice, etc, as well as those run by MLS. Sometimes, it seems like their players run circles around ours.
That is, until ours catch up. Then... look out!!
I mean, I know I mentioned last year that when Miss Priss was playing on co-ed teams, that they played all male Austin teams, and those boys would look at our team and go, "Oh, this is going to be an easy win, because y'all got girls on y'all's team!"
Our girls would literally spit fire, and those boys never saw them coming. Literally. We might not have won those games, but we kept the score really close!!
So, this morning, the team that played us, the Dynamites, had obviously talked to the coaches of the teams we've already played, and thought we'd just roll over and die for them.
HA!!
As if!!
Okay, so, our girls...well, I don't know what got into them, but I sure hope it gets into them more often!! They scored 3 POINTS!!! They lost 4 to 3. It would have been a tie, but our goalie scored an own goal on us, and it was good. So, 4 to 3. But STILL, they SCORED 3 POINTS!!!
It was amazing, and you should have seen the Impertinent One!! At one point, when she had the ball and was driving for the goal, one of the Dynamites tripped her and pushed her. Miss Priss went down, but she never lost control of the ball. She immediately rolled onto her butt, and kicked that ball LYING DOWN, kept it away from the other player, and then kicked it out.
The ref blew the whistle and pulled a yellow card on the Dynamite midfielder. Heh, heh... Miss Priss got the kick, and passed it to one of her team-mates, who kicked it into the goal and SCORED!! Yeah, now THAT'S how you get 'em back!! She nodded at the girl who knocked her down and pointed at her, like, "You so totally blew it, and I got you in the only way that counts, yo!"
I'M SO PROUD!!!
The Impossible Son had a most excellent game as well. They won 6 to 1, and it just rocked. Mr. Manzie played goalie again, and just did a wonderful job, and he had two assists at forward that resulted in a score. YAY!!! You should see him just GO!! Those long legs pumping as he drives the ball down the field, I can't help shouting, "Go Rocket Boy!!" because I'm telling you, he just FLIES down the field!!
And one of the girls on our U-8 team got her first goal!! It was so wonderful!! I'm hoarse from all the yelling! Cheering and all that, you know. I have to tell you, I LOVE soccer now. Especially now that I understand it. HEE!!!
