Yes, it is all over, so... okay, baaa, baaa, I'm doing it, too!
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your IJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your IJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use—or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not — it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Okay, okay, Auntie will do her best (because she's absolutely terrible at asking, she really is):
1.) No more drama, for Auntie or her f-list, through the holidays. For all of us to have a nice, happy, laid-back holiday season with no stress, no disasters, and no running out of chocolate!
2.) I share something with Albus Dumbledore. If I looked into the Mirror of Erised, I would see myself with an armload of soft, thick, warm, and colorful socks. My feet are always cold!
3.) Please make a donation to your local animal shelter or SPCA, or even better, your local spay and neuter group for low-income families. I love kittens and puppies just as much as the next person, but there are too many who are born only to be put to sleep. Or to die lonely and unloved on the sides of roads and in forgotten places. Those low-cost spay and neuter groups do amazing and wonderful work as well as an important public service!
4.) I would really, really love some artwork based on one of my fics. Really. *blinks appealingly*
5.) Random acts of kindness. Please. For one thing, it's an instant mood-lifter for YOU. For another, it tends to have a ripple effect and spread around. And there's the added benefit of making the day surreal for the receiver of your act. So if you see a chance to do something kind for someone, even if it's just a small thing... do it. All those little things add up...
6.) A huge, heaping, extra-large helping of patience for the new year. I'm afraid this year's supply is running a bit low!
7.) Hardback Bloomsbury (or Raincoast) editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Really, for an American, reading these editions is like reading a whole new story, sometimes. Shocking, the things the be-damned editors at Scholastic changed! Cuz we Amerikanz iz too stoopid to pik up a dikshunary or uze Googul. Har har.
8.) For my muse to stop going off on tropical vacations... without ME, dammit!!
9.) A little more stamina, please. I need to keep up with thesmall demonz on speed kids.
10.) This one's too hard, because I want it so very much, but I just can't do it. So, it shall remain a mystery to all. Maybe I should just say, "Everybody just close your eyes and wish real hard that Wish Number 10 comes true for Auntie!" And really, that would be enough for me!! ♥
