Okay, so today is a much better day than yesterday. And Saturday. Because it's NOT raining, though it's very cold, the kids can go outside, at least on the back porch, and get their Wigglies out, and they're not so overwhelmed with cabin fever. Or do I mean overwhelming US with their cabin fever?

Saturday, the Impertinent Daughter was hormonal, and driving the rest of us up the wall, across the ceiling, down the other wall, across the floor, and back up the wall again. Finally, even the Husbandly One's seemingly infinite patience gave out and he told me to take her out, take her to a movie, take her shopping, ANYTHING, just get her out of the house!!

So, we braved rainy, icy weather and drove the the local theater to see "Eragon."

...

Okay, so I'm GLAD I hadn't had a chance to re-read the book before going to see the movie. I mean, the book started off kinda slow, but it grew on me... like fungus, I'll admit it, but then I remembered the audience it was written for, and adjusted my brain accordingly. Once I did that, I sort of enjoyedit. And I sort of enjoyed the movie. In spite of the time compression thing (okay, so I'm supposed to buy that the dragon grows from being small enough for Eragon to toss into the air with his hands, into being big enough for him to RIDE within MINUTES because of some sort of reaction between her body and the clouds??), and the extremely bare-bones explanations thing so that Eragon seems to just KNOW how to do things from just vague little hints that what's his name gives him....okay, if I leave out all that, then yeah, great movie!

*rolls eyes*

The important thing here is, Miss Priss enjoyed the daylights out of it, even if we got cold. I mean, the theater was warm enough when we got there, but it got progressively colder and colder as we sat there, and Miss Priss moved closer and closer to me as our feet and fingers lost feeling, and we started seeing our breath in the air, until she was practically in my lap. Oh, my legs! Having a ten year old in your lap is much different from having a five year old in your lap, especially in one of those theater seats, but I wrapped my jacket around us both and we were warm enough for as long as that lasted.

Yesterday, the kids were once again driving us nuts with cabin fever, until we finally, out of the desire to retain our sanity, took them to the indoor playground at McDonald's so they could run and play to their heart's content. We weren't the only parents with that idea, and so there was a nice, noisy crowd there. The Impertinent Husband and I found a spot where we could see everything and sat down to read our books while we watched the kids play and run, and do all the things kids do when they finally have an outlet for their energy.

Today is much better. They're trying to talk me into going out for an explore in a bit, and I'm in two minds. Do I stay here, nice and warm like a contented cat and read a good book? Or... do I go outside where it is frigidly cold, and wet, and icy, looking for icicles and Frozen Things of Interest, getting my feet and mittens wet, risking chilblains and frostbite, and possibly pneumonia, all while watching my kids running here and there, squealing with excitement and rushing to show me stuff?

Yeah, I probably will. Guess I'd better find my waterproof mocs. And my mittens. And my hat. And the scarf.

Did I mention I'm like a cat, and I like to stay warm and dry?
