Auntie's getting feisty

You know, mostly Auntie enjoys living in a small town. There are advantages, like, knowing your pharmacist, because her kids go to your school as yours, or play on the same soccer team. And there are disadvantages, like a smaller budget for your school district, meaning things like language classes in elementary gets cut because they need the money for something else. Like fixing the water fountains. But lately, there have been things that have just chapped Auntie's hide, and that makes Auntie downright... feisty. Today, the Impertinent Daughter came home with a flyer in her backpack. An announcement telling us it was "family movie time" and we were privileged to have our daughter bring home this Friday a move for our enjoyment. That set Auntie's radar off, as you can imagine. It told me that "the movie is one that the whole family will enjoy and teaches the values that we are teaching as part of our character education program here at..." the Impertinent Daughter's school. Uh huh. That made Auntie raise an eyebrow. Then it said, "Your child's teacher and classmates will be discussing the movie together on the following Monday morning." And in bold print, it said, "Teachers will be rewarding the students who watched the movie with their family!!"
Now, nowhere in this flyer does it tell Auntie what this movie is, or what it is about, but it does tell me there will be no charge to us or the school for the use of it over the weekend, but we have to return it on Monday, and if we want to purchase it, it's just $10.00. Whoo-hoo, lucky us!! We're assured we are under no obligation to purchase the movie.
Well, I have to say, Auntie's dander is up! Why are they sending advertising home in my girl's back pack?? Why are they sending me a movie without telling me what it is or what it's about?? I went on a websearch, and while I'm still suspicious, it is not an openly Christian thing. Auntie seriously has her doubts, I must say. I don't go around proselytizing to other folks about my religion, and I definitely do not appreciate stealth attempts to proselytize my family in our own home!!
And what if we don't agree with the movie? There is a reason I call my daughter the Impertinent One. She thinks for herself, and I have to say, I wish I could be a fly on the wall in her classroom next Monday, if we decide to go along with this. We only got the flyer today. I'm going to let it simmer in my brain tonight, sleep on it, and see if I'm still pissed enough about it in the morning to bend a few ears (and maybe box them for good measure) at the school. Huh, Characterades?? Who are they trying to kid??
