It's a Sad, Sad Story...
Monday, March 31st, 2008 10:30 pmOur crawdad, mudbug, crayfish, land lobster, whatever you wnat to call him, ol' Ray has gone to that Crustacean Ceili in the Sky.
He's been with us for at least four years, possibly longer. But it's been harder and harder for us to find food with the proper balance of chitins and proteins in it. He was a very picky mudbug. Some things he'd go for, others not so much. It's odd that in death, crawdads turn a really pretty shade of blue.
See? In the Husbandly One's hand...

Yes, he was big, wasn't he? He'd holed up in the castle in his fish tank three or four weeks ago and wouldn't come out. I'd pull him out (because I was the only person he'd let touch him without trying to attack) and he'd scurry back in. I think now that he needed to moult, and couldn't, because again, he wasn't getting the things he needed in his diet, and I was having a very hard time finding food for him. I had actually set traps for crickets in our garden, thinking to mash them up for him. Oh well, guess I can let the little buggers go now!
I'll never forget his finest moment, when he caught a cat! Goodbye, Ray. You were't cute and cuddly, but you had personality, and life was never dull with you around!
