Geezus in a frickin' thunderbus!! Is there anything more exhausting than chasing three seven year old boys through the Texas State Capital Building, up and down four flights of stairs, through the rotunda, the Senate chamber, the gallery, and the office of a Very Important Person, whom I don't know the identity of, because I whizzed by, being in hot pursuit of my charges??

It was field trip day, because the third, and fifth grade classes were taking their T.A.K.S. test, otherwise known as the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (sounds like the O.W.L.S., doesn't it?), and thus the schools wanted the pre-K, Kindergarten, and first grade classes out of their hair. In fact, it was Pointless Field Trip Day, because we didn't go on a guided tour or anything. They just saddled each victim... er... I mean parent, with three or four kids. I heard two teachers say, "Oh, give Mrs. J. the boys. She's got such a good rapport with boys, she can handle anything they throw at her."

I was like, "oh, gods, don't jinx me!"

My three weren't too bad, except they moved faster than a greased pig in a hugging contest, and were as curious as all get out. "What's in here?" they'd ask as they dashed toward yet another closed, locked door. Thus the flash by the Very Important Person. I have no idea who it was, only that he had a rather startled, and indignant look on his face as the boys went whooping through his office. I did hear him rather wearily say to his secretary, "Miss Bertram, that was the seventh group today. Please lock the outer office door NOW!!"

Did I mention FOUR FLIGHTS OF STAIRS???

Good thing I've been hitting the track again, or I would have DIED today.

Four.

FOUR flights of stairs.

And now, I have to go pick my kids up. At least we don't have soccer practice today.

Four, people. FOUR!!
