So, the Husbandly One got a half-day off, because the person who has the codes to the vault wasn't in today or something, and we decided to trek into San Marcos to see "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."

Okay, now, when I go see the Harry Potter movies, I have a moment at the start where I sputter, "But... that didn't happen in the book!" and "No, wait... this and this are supposed to happen first!" and "Gah!! Why did they cut that, it's important!!"

And then I take a deep breath and... I let the book go, and settle in to just enjoy the movie for itself.

That didn't happen so much this time.

Dude, seriously... are they re-writing Rowling??

Okay, okay, I did enjoy the movie, but there were times when I'd think, "Oh, geez, they can't cut this character out, because... how are they going to handle this, that, and the other come the next movie??"

The Impertinent One got so disgusted and upset that she stopped watching pretty much when the Burrow caught on fire and went to sleep.

What did I absolutely love? Ron, when he ate the chocolate cauldrons and fell "in love" with Romilda. Oh, and the Quidditch... oh, the Quidditch was AWESOME!!! I loved Harry's almost drunken glee after taking the Felix Felicis! And Draco's angst, yep, loved that, too. Oh, and Luna, Luna was wonderful!!

The Impossible Son, however... well, we're reading Half-Blood Prince right now, as I've mentioned, but we're only at the part where Hagrid tells Harry and Hermione about the argument between Snape and Dumbledore, right in the middle of Chapter 19, and it never occurred to me to prepare him... I mean, I was worried about the scene with the Inferi, to tell you the truth, and he was safely settled in Papa's lap, and I leaned over and put my arms around him and said, "This part's going to be a little scary, but it'll be okay, because Dumbledore will save Harry, okay?"

And he was fine with that.

Never occurred to me to tell him what was going to happen later. So... when Snape killed Dumbledore, it came as a complete shock to him. "Is... is... Dumbledore... dead??" he whispered in a shocked voice.

I put my arms around him again and said, "Yes, sweetie, he's dead," while mentally kicking myself for being a complete idiot who thinks too hard. And he wept. He didn't cry, he wept, sobbing into my shoulder while I patted him and tried to comfort him without pulling him into my lap, because he was clinging to Papa too hard. After he was calmer, I told him it was okay, that I had cried, too, when I read it in the book. He seemed to feel a little better, but he sat there for the rest of the movie, staring mournfully at the screen, crying softly and holding my hand way too hard.

I was amused, however, to notice a lot of adults sitting in the theater, watching the movie, many of them apparently by themselves. Hee! In fact, a guy walked up as we were buying our tickets and bought a ticket for himself, then looked at us and blushed. I just grinned at him. Hey, who am I to criticize??

Have to admit though, I was really, really hoping they'd have the meeting between the two Ministers in the movie. That would have been awesome!

Oh well, when I've had time to process the movie a little more, maybe I'll have more to say, but for now... I mostly liked it. Mostly.

Oh, who am I kidding? It was a Harry Potter movie. Of course I liked it! Sheesh!!
