Had a really good weekend, even though it got colder than all get out Saturday afternoon. Winter's last blast, I hope! Anyhow, we had mucho rain Saturday morning and had to cancel all soccer games, and thus were able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, rather than stuffing a granola bar into our faces and rushing out to the fields.

Saturday afternoon, we packed and went to visit an old friend of the Husbandly One, who was having a party/movie night at their home, and were showing "Screw-On Head," "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long" (which I missed, because I was in the kitchen being all sociable-like) and both "Boondock Saints" movie, which for some inexplicable reason, we watched in reverse order.

A good time was had by all. Including my kids.

No, they didn't watch "Boondock Saints." They (at least the under-10 crowd) were banished upstairs and to bed. Miss Priss mostly entertained the other over 10 kid by watching videos on the computer in the playroom.

I think I surprised the Husbandly One greatly by not either hiding behind a sketchbook, or my knitting (which is my usual way of handling a group of new people I don't know well, so I can sit back and observe until I feel comfortable, then ease my way into things slowly, ready to flee back to my corner at an instant's notice. Must have been a cat in a former life or something, I guess). Instead, I actually... hung out. With, you know, everyone. It was AWESOME!! I think I can say with complete confidence that I have never felt so comfortable and at ease with a group of people ever before in my life. It was like I'd known them for YEARS!! It was so WEIRD!! But... totally cool, really!!

And then, even MORE AWESOME than that? Yes, yes, there IS something more awesome than that, truly there is!!

I was sitting on the couch, and this small woman walked up to me with a hesitant smile on her face, and she said, "You look very familiar to me... I think I... I think I know you. Could you possibly be... [personal profile] auntbijou?"

I blinked, stared at her for a moment while my brain processed it, because I was SO prepared to say, "Maybe we met at U of H?" because she seemed awfully familiar to ME, too! Then my brain caught up and I smiled and said, "Yes, yes, I am!"

And she smiled and said, "I'm [profile] cyndtechgoddess"

It was a mutual squee-fest!!

What was really weird about it was I'd had this feeling all day that I was going to meet someone from my f-list at this party. I mean, from the moment I woke up, till I finished packing, then in the car the whole way, and when we walked into the house, I had this feeling. I just knew someone was going to ask me if I was [personal profile] auntbijou, and rather than feeling nervous or freaked out... I was completely cool with it.

I also had this completely solid conviction that I was going to see [profile] vicki_sine at this same party. I just knew she was going to be there, to the point that I kept looking toward the front door every time I heard it open. Our hostess was asked if [profile] vicki_sine was coming, and she said she wasn't sure, she hadn't heard from her, etc. But... I knew she would. So when she came into the kitchen, I joyfully shouted, "MUM!!" and ran to hug her. It was GREAT!!

I was a very happy Auntie, and I HADN'T EVEN HAD ANY ALCOHOL!! OR CHOCOLATE!!

[profile] cyndtechgoddess and I talked, and talked and talked, and squeed, and talked, and [profile] vicki_sine joined in (since she's the one who introduced us) and it was wonderful! There was a discussion about shoe-sex, and a pair of totally wicked and awesome spike-heeled thigh-high boots was thrown in the mix (OMG, they were PURPLE!), which made me lament that I can no longer wear high heels because my my Rice-Crispy knee, and they were both trying to convince me that I should be the next Erma Bombeck and write books about my kids (but with different names)... it was FUN!!

And yes, I know I'm babbling incoherently, but it made me very happy!

We spent the night, then left this morning to go visit my mom in her new house, which is also wonderful, and spacious and full of light, and just the right size for both my mom and my sister. Mom already looks stronger and less stressed, which also makes me very happy! She admitted to me a few days ago that she hadn't been sleeping all that well in the old house because she was constantly worried that someone would break in and hurt her. And, frankly, all of us were worried about that, hence the need to get her out, as well as worrying about some of the things she was doing. I suspect now that a large part of that was sleep deprivation.

It was good to see how sturdily built the house was, too. The risers on the stairs are nice and wide, not too narrow to step up and down, and the balustrade is very sturdy and easy to grip for elderly hands. It's also well lit, for which I am very glad, though Mom doesn't have to go upstairs, since her bedroom and everything she needs is downstairs. The upstairs will be the Flaky Sister's domain.

We took Mom to lunch, then hung out with her. The Blonde Sister came by with her daughters, M, and A, and I squeed a bit over M, because she just got engaged on Thursday (she and her fiance have been dating for four years) and wanted to show me ... "The Dress." And it is all kinds of lovely, and won't make her look like a ridiculously over-dressed doll.

And... we got home before sunset, which was also wonderful! A fun-filled and wonderful weekend... that didn't involve soccer! YAY!!!

Oh. My. Gods.

Oh. My. Gods.

That movie was so freaking awesome, that I almost don't have words. I think that was probably the best James Cameron movie I have ever seen... and truly, y'all, I haven't seen that many, but... jays, that was an awesome movie!!

How the bloody hell did they make the CGI so... real???

That was just... wow. Totally. Wow.

Excuse me, I just need to go sit in a corner and turn into a puddle of goo. Blue goo. That glows in the dark. On Pandora. Yeah. Totally.

*dies*

So, the Husbandly One got a half-day off, because the person who has the codes to the vault wasn't in today or something, and we decided to trek into San Marcos to see "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."

Spoilery bits, if you haven't seen it, don't click!! )

What do you do...

The Impertinent Daughter has gone with the Husbandly One to a referee clinic in San Marcos today. She is officially old enough now to serve as a referee for the U6, U8, U10, and U12 groups, and even up to U18 (but for now, we'll stick to the younger leagues). Since she's trying out for her school's soccer team this spring, she's decided not to play rec-league soccer, so, she'll referee instead. This should be fun, especially with the U6 group. The youngest group plays three on three, with no goalies, and no score is kept, but it's so much fun to watch! Mostly because at that age level, it's all about getting them to run in the right direction, remember to actually kick the ball, and not get distracted by passing butterflies.

Sometimes, you end up with six little kids in a tangled circle, all of them kicking the ball at the same time, their little faces scrunched up with determination, and someone, usually the coaches, has to go in and rescue the ball by separating the players. Oh, that's right, the coaches are on the field, helping to direct the game. They can't kick the ball or touch it, they can only direct their players ("Keep kicking the ball! Keep kicking the ball! No, don't stop running, no, run and kick the ball, YES! There you go!!). It can be convulsively funny, and I can't tell you how many times I have had to hide my face in a jacket or a shirt to hide the fact that I was laughing myself silly!

I'm looking forward to watching Miss Priss trying to sort all this out. It should be interesting!

In the meantime, while they are off gallivanting through the FIFA rulebook, the Impossible Son and I will be having a special day all to ourselves. A "Mama and Impossible Son" day, if you will. He wants to go to China Palace for lunch, and then we will go see "Bolt," since he has been wanting to see that for some time now. The last time we had a day to ourselves like this, we went to see "Ratatouille" which was surprisingly good (I actually hadn't expected much from it). I am hoping "Bolt" will also surprise me in a good way. It's funny how something I'll anticipate as being good will suck, and something I'll wince at seeing, and have to be dragged to will actually turn out well.

After that, I guess we'll either go window shopping, or hit one of the parks, or some such. Hmmmm... a trip to the local state park (since we have free passes) for a bit of kid-sized hiking would probably not be a bad idea. Or maybe we'll get some ice cream. We both love ice cream.

Hee!

This, of course, is if I don't poop out on him (which is entirely possible). Guess I'll be ingesting mass quantities of caffeine so I can keep up with him!

Oh, and before I forget, happy birthday to [profile] tilla_tormentosa! I hope it's a good one without too much drama!!

Okay, so we've seen "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" a second time.  We saw it Wednesday night, as you all know, at our local theater, and it seemed uncommonly dark and dreary, until I realized it was because one of the lamps behind the screen was flickering in and out.  Drove us nuts, because scenes that were actually dark were pretty much obscured.  Very frustrating!  And even though the theater was packed, and the teenaged girls sitting in the row in front of us were all clutching wands, we got the feeling of being alone in the wilderness.  These people liked Harry Potter, but... that was it.

Yesterday, we drove into Austin to see the movie again, this time choosing the AMC at Barton Creek Mall, and OH what a difference!  The lighting was better, the SOUND was better, and... well, we ended up sitting in the very front section, and I thought, oh well. At first, the Impossible Son was happy, because there was no one in front of us and he could SEE!!  Then... a group of people showed up that sat in front of us, and he moved from my lap, to the Husbandly One's lap, even to the Impertinent Daughter's lap, trying to see, and ended up curled up in a ball of misery in his chair, so very frustrated.  "Why'm I so SMALL??" he nearly wailed.

"Because Papa and I are small," I whispered back.

He sniffled.  "Well... get tall.  I'm tired of being LITTLE!!"

If only it was so easy!

The Husbandly One got him up, and they moved two rows in front of us so they could sprawl back in their chairs and stare up Dan Radcliffe's nostrils, and Mr. Manzie was so much happier because he could finally see.  This meant Miss Priss and I were free to huddle together and make comments to each other, and quietly squee or wince as we pleased.

This was a much different experience than Wednesday, because it turned out the people surrounding us in our little section in the front were teens and twenty-somethings who apparently were all not only fans, but FANS WHO READ FAN-FIC!!

Every time Harry and Ron seemed to have a "moment," like when Ron grabbed Harry to pull him away from Malfoy, they cheered, or said things like, "That's it, Ron, GO GET YOUR MAN!!"  It was hilarious!  I didn't feel so ... inhibited... laughing at the really funny parts that only sick, twisted, perverted people like US would get.  The whole Snape dragging Harry down to the dungeons got several of the kids quite excited, and they actually went, "Awwww," in disappointment when all he did was throw Harry in a chair to start invading his mind!  I leaned over and said, "Oh, please, you have read the books, did you really think they were going to do that in the movie??"

The reply?  "Hey, I can dream, can't I?"

*merry laughter*

Oh, what a difference!  I guess we could have driven into San Marcos, but... I'm glad we drove into Austin instead.  It was worth it just to listen to all the comments of those kids sitting around us, and to see the Impertinent Daughter's eyes light up as she leaned toward me and said, "Mom!  They're just as weird as we are!"

I laughed and said, "Oh, Hunnybunny, if you only knew!"

I nearly convulsed with laughter when one of the boys in front of me craned his neck over his chair and asked, "Hey, lady, you ever read something called fanfic?"

Miss Priss jabbed me HARD with her elbow as I bit my tongue hard and said, "I may have read some a time or two."

I'm going to have bruises where she jabbed me three more times.  Of course, it was probably to get me back for clapping my hand over her mouth when she started to say, "Are you kidding?  She writes it!"

Somehow, I think he knew anyway.

Now, of course, the kids are jabbering about the next book, when it comes out,  when we'll get our hands on it, and so on.  Miss Priss has decided she will attend the Potter Party as Luna Lovegood, and we have finished her Butter Beer cork necklace.  No, it looks nothing like the one from the movie.  She wanted one more like what she pictured in her head from the book.  We drew logos on the corks, because she decided that each pub brewed its own Butter Beer, and thus Luna would probably collect them.  So, we have corks from the Three Broomsticks, The Leaky Cauldron, and the Hog's Head. But we also have Rosmerta's Best, Tom's Special Butter Beer, and Seeker's Best from the Golden Snitch Inn.  We have the Whomping Willow, and the Full Moon Inn, which is a special pub for werewolves, though non-weres are allowed as long as accompanied.  There's the Broken Wand, and the Dragon's Eye, and quite a few others I don't remember off the top of my head.  We had a lot of fun drawing thumbnails and then inking the logos onto the corks.  We worked on the radish earrings last night.  I think I may have to redo them, but we'll see.

Mr. Manzie is going as Harry Potter again.  He's hoping to win another free copy of the book like he did when "Half Blood Prince" came out.  He was such a cute little Harry Potter!  He wants to look like Harry either when the Dementors attacked, or for the battle at the Ministry.  I'll have to see what I can pull out of my creative hat.  This should be interesting!
