The Impertinent Daughter has a friend, we'll call him Toast Boy. Well... actually, I think she and her friends call him "Turtle" so... perhaps I should call him that, too. Not because he is turtle-like in anyway, but he loves turtles. And the other important thing for you to know is that he is obsessed with toast.

I guess there are worse things to be obsessed with!

Anyhow, because they are good friends, and rather silly together, when Miss Priss and I were looking through the many very, very cute wearables on shanalogic.com and found this very, very cute toast scarf, she immediately said, "Oh, Turtle would loooove one of those! How much is that?"

I said, startled, "You want to buy this??"

"It would be perfect for him, Mum! He's got this thing with toast..."

So I looked at the price and promptly inhaled my tongue.

A few hearty slaps of the back later, the Impertinent One said, "Can't you make that? I mean, it's crochet, right? You can crochet that... right?"

And here is the result...

Toaster Scarf

As you can see, she is as pleased as Punch with that scarf! And because she's giving it to a friend who happens to be a boy, rather than a boyfriend, we decided to make the butter pats square rather than heart-shaped. I think it turned out rather well, considering I had to make up the pattern myself!

Evidently, it's rather tasty, too...

Tasty...

I told her that when she gives it to him, she should ask him, "So, are we going to be friends for life or what?" And if he says yes, she should hold it out solemnly across her hands and say something like, "Then I present you with the order of the Toasty Scarf!" and drape it around his neck!

Hey, for all the work I put into it, completing it within a month, I figure some over-the-top dramatic gesture should go with it!! Would have finished it sooner if I hadn't had to undo it, and redo it until I figured out the stitches, then had more than a few minutes of uninterrupted time to work on it!! As it is, I hope she remembers to tell me how he reacted when he got it! I do know that the very idea of me making it for him (because her best friend let it slip, not knowing he was behind them when she asked about it) was enough for him to come up to me two weeks ago and introduce himself to me, squeaky voice and terror-stricken eyes and all!!

Seriously... I'm not that scary... am I??

Anyway, after telling me who he was, and why he was shaking my hand with damp palms, he made a few incoherent statements that might have been about the Impertinent Daughter's comics and drawings (I'm sure her name, comics, and cracking up were in there somewhere), he blurted something about being happy to meet me, and disappeared rapidly.

I wonder what it will be like when a boy she's dating introduces himself to me?

*dies laughing*

Anyhow, I'm done, and I'm glad! And glad it's going to Turtle, who will hopefully be very happy with it!

Looky!!

I finished my first amigurumi! Probably because I was bored out of my mind in bed, but still! It's a bit wonky, and I've learned a few lessons, like ... sew on the eyes BEFORE stuffing and tightening the top.

crochet,amigurumi

Oh, guess I should tell you what it is! It's a Makurokurosuke Soot Sprite from the movie,Spirited Away! Did the eyes a little differently than they were done on the pattern I found, because they didn't look right. They were wide apart, and sort of... deer in the headlights. I wanted mine to look more like this...

I think I'm pretty close!

Now to decide what to do with it. Maybe... hang it from my rearview mirror? Definitely going to make more. I've decided I'll keep a handful around, toss 'em into the kids' rooms when they get a little too messy and say, "Guys, when the soot sprites start showing up, it's time to clean your room!!"

*saunters off with a smug Auntie smile*

Busy, busy, busy...

I needed a profile picture for my Ravelry page, so the Husbandly One obligingly took one of my hands as I worked on a bag...

auntie

Yes, I have a bandaged finger. Blame it on excessively dry skin and leave it at that.

And here is the Husbandly One. He's letting his hair grow out, and I promised my mother a shot of him with his ponytail. *squee* He's getting ready to leave for soccer practice, as he has a 3v3 team for a summer tournament in July.

Why, yes, I do find him irresistibly sexy and mouthwateringly hot... why do you ask?

Yes, Random Auntie is random!

The promised picture!!

[personal profile] lddurham... I'm gonna end up on Ravelry, aren't I? I mean, I'm already hitting [profile] weloveamigurumi, and I finally signed up on Lion Brand yarn's site so I could get at some of their patterns...

And oh, by the way... the blanket that I've been working on for Miss Priss?

It's done. I'm done, I'm done, glory halleeluyer, I'm done! Yes, when I wasn't curled up in a little ball of misery on the bed with my head buried in the pillows, I was sitting up, curled in a ball on the bed, crocheting to keep my over-active mind from driving me nuts, and therefore, I FINISHED THE BLANKET!!!

WOOT! WOOT! WOOT!!

*bows to cheers*

Yes, thank you, thank you, it was a difficult task, but I got it done, and she's very pleased with it, and can't wait for cold weather to come back so she can use it!

I'll post pictures later, promise! But I just had to tell y'all, because it's one thing that's gone right in an otherwise sucky weekend!!

OMG of SQUEENESS!!!!

*is dying, omg, omg, omg*

I found... omg, I found a pattern to crochet a Totoro, and even Calcifer from Howl's Moving Castle HERE!!!!

*is dying of the cute*

I'm sorry, I know I hardly ever, EVER post about my crafting here, but I can't tell you how much my fingers are twitching and itching to crochet Totoro!!!!

And even as I stare at the amigurumi Calcifer, I am mentally calculating how I can do it better... isn't that sad?

If only there was enough time, I would try to do it as a Christmas surprise for Miss Priss and maybe another for Mr. Manzie, but... their holiday starts on Friday, and there is no way I could "hide in plain sight" while making it (which I have done for other projects in the past).

And the EWOK!!! And the DALEK!!! (and yes, I stared at that and thought how I could do that better, too!). I am already contemplating crocheting a Dalek as a joke for Uncle Scientist, who is a huge Dr. Who fan (see, I knew there was a reason I like him and don't kill him when he irritates me!).

Okay, enough crafter squeeing. We return to our regularly scheduled Auntie...
