I have been informed that I am an Epic Mom™. The Impertinent Daughter informed me of this last night, shortly after she discovered me playing Lego Star Wars on my DS. Apparently, this is something that Ordinary Moms™ just don't do, which makes me wonder, because surely I cannot be the only geeky mom around... right?

I sort of inherited Lego Star Wars from the Impossible Son after he got a DSi XL. Unlike the DSLite, you can't play Game Boy games on a DSi XL, so... I inherited his Game Boy games, which amount to the Lego Star Wars, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, which I haven't played yet because... well... I'm trying to get into Pokemon, because both the kids are into Pokemon, but seriously, y'all, I get so mixed up, plus I'm almost afraid to play either game because I never know which kid has snuck up behind me to watch me play until I hear an agonized, "MOOOOOOOM!!! You can't fight a rock type pokemon with a grass type pokemon!!!" popping off in my ear.

I have to play my games when the kids aren't home, in other words!

I also learned a lesson last night. Never play Lego Star Wars before going to bed.

Why?

Because all my dreams were full of Legos. I was a Lego Auntie. It was... WEIRD! We went on vacation to Rockport again, and my kids were Lego kids, THO was a Lego THO, and set up a Lego canopy on the Lego beach, and the kids were in Lego water, and ran away from Lego jellyfish... And the Impertinent One was a Lego Soccer Ninja, kicking a Lego soccer ball on Lego grass, and we sat in Lego stands, and it was annoying when I had to get up, because I had to pop myself off the seats...

Don't even get me started on the Lego sex dreams!!

Let me put it to you this way... I had to invent the appropriate parts, and there was always this annoying >pop!< at the beginning and the end. Use your imagination.

*flails*

I want to thank everyone for their supportive comments on my last post. THO read the post and apologized profusely once he understood what was going on in my very busy head. It's going to take some work, but we'll figure our way around this one, just as we have before.

And in other news, I am still trying to get back into the swing of writing. Since I haven't signed up for any fests, and am reluctant to do so until I get my brain back in gear, it's been rather slow going. So, to help me get back into the groove, I'm asking y'all to prompt me. I'll do my best to fill them. Doesn't have to be Harry Potter, either. I could swing Star Trek, Dragonriders of Pern, Darkover, maybe Big Bang Theory, but that's a big maybe, with a possible, half-terrified stab at Stargate Atlantis. Or something original, if you give me enough of a prompt to build on. Go ahead, prompt me!

We'll see what we shall see!

So, I was baking cookies yesterday. The Impossible Son will be ten this weekend, and so rather than bringing cupcakes to school, I'm bringing cookies. It would be hypocritical of me to bring cupcakes, since those days when there's a party in his class, Mr. Impossible moves at supersonic speeds, thanks to the dyes in the icing. So, I make cookies, and the teacher usually looks happy because she gets some too, and there's usually some form of chocolate in there, so there's that.

Anyhow, the Impertinent One decided to do one of her gag fanarts for Kingdom Hearts, inspired by my baking, and by the Husbandly One's extremely friendly reaction to my baking, and... here it is...

What?? Does my daughter know what yaoi is? OF COURSE, SHE DOES!! I am her mother, do you think I would neglect this part of her education? PLEASE!!

*laughs*

Speaking of yaoi and Kingdom Hearts, one of the Impertinent One's friends has decided she doesn't like Kingdom Hearts anymore. Why? Because a couple of years ago, she decided to Google "yaoi," and was... traumatized, I guess, by the idea of two men being all lovey dovey with each other, which I guess means she never watches television or reads the newspaper, or is just randomly oblivious to the world...

Anyhow, the reason she doesn't like Kingdom Hearts any more is because if you take the letters in the name "Xemnas" (a character in Kingdom Hearts) and rearrange them, you get the word, "Man sex."

O_o??

Uh-huh. So... simply rearranging the letters of one character's name makes it, what... a yaoi game?? It's all about the MAN SEX, not killing a lot of Heartless and collecting all the... hearts... to make Kingdom Hearts... right... because you know, every time I play the game, I'm having such a hard time killing the Leech Grave because I keep getting distracted by Roxas getting it on with Axel over behind the wall, right?

Yeah.

Of course, I am expecting logic from a 14 year old girl who has an obsession with narwhals. In other words, she's very sheltered.

And no, I haven't defeated the Leech Grave yet, because evidently I am hopeless at video games. But I keep trying!

*blushes and edges out of the room*

Yesterday was a pretty good day. The migraine is backing off (yay!), which is a huge relief, because my poor kids were stuck at home with a grouchy mom. It's spring break, so they're off from school. Not a good time for Mom to be curled up in bed with a blanket over her head!

The Husbandly One was off yesterday, because he needed to update the photo on his driver's license. I think the current photo is... over ten years old. That's all I feel safe to say, because I know it was taken after we moved here, and Miss Priss was just old enough to be walking. Yes, that long ago! So, yes, very much time for updating!

Anyhow, after he was done with that, we went to San Marcos to visit the library and turn in books. The manga section at the San Marcos Public Library has grown since we joined, but its growth cannot keep up with the Impertinent Daughter's voracious appetite, I'm afraid. That and there seem to be people who check the manga out... but never return them, so she's often stuck, either waiting for the next volume in the series she's reading, or skipping ahead, and knowing there's something she's missing. Putting holds on manga she wants to read will work... but only if the manga in question gets turned in!

After, we went to Academy, which is a sporting goods store for those who aren't in the know, because Auntie needed new shoes. I mean, come on, the sole was coming off one pair, and the others... *winces*.

Auntie is hard on her sneakers.

There was a pair I've had my eye on for a while, and I've been waiting for the price to go down, but... it just wasn't going down fast enough, and it's not like we couldn't afford them, but I do try to stick to a budget, you know? So, I had gone down the women's shoe aisle, found the shoes, and frowned when I saw that they'd only gone down to $59.99, and I wasn't so crazy about the color.

Then I remembered, hey... I've got small feet, and they have these shoes in boys sizes... I'll go look there!

So I did, and found a pair in my size and bonus, in a snazzy blue!! And... they were $29.99!! WOOT!!

Yes, Auntie is happy!

Last night, the local library had a "Mario Kart Wii" tournament for kids, so we went for the fun of it. We don't go to our local library much because, well... it sucks, as far as reading material goes. I used to think it was poorly funded, but then I realized that it sucks for the same reason book stores never last more than six months in this town.

No one in this town reads.

*shrugs*

Yes, I know, it's appalling.

*sigh*

But, they always have interesting events at the library, and we've gone to some of them, and had a lot of fun. This was no different. The Impossible Son has been excited all week about this, so he pretty much burst into the library when we got there. He signed up immediately, and the Impertinent Daughter only signed up after much discussion with us. She said she was feeling a little too full after dinner, and wasn't sure she should, etc, but after a couple of older kids had signed up, she finally decided to join in, and had a great deal of fun. It's different playing against other kids, rather than just your parents and your brother.

The Impossible Son won two games, but came in second on his last game, so he ended up coming in fourth over all. The Impertinent Daughter, however... won the whole damn tournament!!

*dies laughing*

Pretty good for someone who didn't want to sign up in the first place! She won a $20 gift certificate to WalMart and promptly spent it on... sketchbooks. But then, y'all already knew that, right?

Yes, all in all, a good night for our little family. I'm pondering what to do today, though it looks cloudy and rainy. Maybe a movie? We'll just have to see!
